Score One For First Amendment Rights..

One issue that has always been of first-order importance to me – my whole life, in fact – has been that of first amendment protections of free speech and a free press. I personally feel that it’s better to err on the side of inconvenience or even discomfort for the masses in the interest of protecting free speech, however inflammatory or salacious it might be. In the end, I believe that even the most horrific ideas being voiced publicly will serve only to incriminate the speaker by putting a spotlight on ill thoughts and agendas. It’s those sneaky types who say one thing in public but have a very different actual agenda they are planning to put forward that you really have to worry about.. And they never say what they are really thinking…

The Weather Out Here

It’s never lost on me; it never gets old. The place I call home has to have the most fantastic weather of any major city on earth.

I grew up in South Texas. Since most of my family and a ton of friends are there, it’s home to me(okay, not my new home,but it still gets credit,) and there are elements of the weather there that I do miss. Okay, there is one: thunderstorms. I really miss that awesome, violent, beautiful Southern thunderstorm weather. It scares some people, particularly kids. When I was a kid it made me wish it would never be over. I loved it. I’ve always found it relaxing, invigorating.

Guilty Plea for “Casino” Murders…

It only took the feds 21 years, but they’ve finally gotten at least one plea of guilty in the killings of two Chicago Outfit mafia members. These guys were made famous, albeit with names changed, in the hit movie “Casino” by Martin Scorsese.

Tony “the ant” Spilotro is the real name of the character played by Joe Pesci in the film. He and his brother (Michael Spilotro in real life) were both beaten to death and buried in a field in Indiana, if you recall from watching the movie – that event in the film was factual.

Right Turn, Clyde…

For many months now, there has a been a “controversy” in the local media. No, it hasn’t been the ill treatment of Las Vegas’ homeless population – that one lost it’s appeal back in the fall. It hasn’t been a number of other thought-provoking, socially-conscious issues that are very active in our community and should be taking up space in the local news – issues that should remain in focus until workable solutions to the problems are found and decisive actions are taken… Oh, no, not those issues… We’re [still] talking about the flight path for departures out of McCarran International Airport. Seriously important, life-changing stuff.
