I can hear John Waters on the television in the next room and it seems like a really interesting show…something I’d really like to watch. Unfortunately, right now I’m crouched on the floor of the restroom with my new porcelain friend. How did I end up in this situation? Perhaps I should reexamine my evening and use my detective skills to figure it out.

We start out with a drink at the Griffin. The bartendress pours me an entire shot when I ask to sample “just a tiny bit” of the unusual vodka that I’ve never seen before. This becomes my second drink and we have one more round before leaving. I don’t know if the shot ended up on the tab, but I know it puts me one drink ahead of everyone else in the group. Extra shot, ftw!

Las Vegas Bike Fest

This time each year, soon after the weather has changed and it’s just so damned nice you want to be outside all of the time, Las Vegas Bike Fest hits town and no matter where you go you see an unusual number of bikes on the prowl around town. I’ve never really gone down to the shows to check them out, although I’ve always admired a sexy-looking chopper, myself.

The Las Vegas Bike Fest is apparently a somewhat diffuse event, with different parts of it spread out over town.

A Sad Day For Golden Gate Hotel and Casino

golden gate hotel and casinoFor years I’ve enjoyed Downtown Las Vegas in a way that I think is lost on a lot of people. I actually have always kind of dug the old, kitschy vibe, the stuff with a little history, the stuff with a little character (and a lot of characters, at that…) I like walking into casinos (at least the clean ones, anyways) that have low ceilings with antique lighting fixtures and wood paneling – cashier’s cages with cute little brass bars. It’s sort of like the Old West. Do I go down there all the time? No, of course not. Do I feel a sense a security knowing that at least some things never change? Hell yes.

…But things change. Nowhere do things change as often or as quickly as they do here in Las Vegas, Nevada.
