It’s a little after nine o’clock in the morning and for the past forty-five minutes I’ve been driving back and forth from the MGM Signature towers to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center as fast as the passengers and the traffic will allow. It’s not the most desirable fare, but today I happen to be restricted. (Restricted cabs are prohibited from picking up rides Downtown, on the Strip, or at McCarran International Airport.) In a non-restricted cab I could go just about anywhere else, but the Signature is the closest location without a Las Vegas Boulevard address and there are plenty of rides because everyone is going to the convention. A short ride now is always better than another potentially short ride after a possible wait in a taxi line. Most ...

The BlogWorld and New Media Expo is coming to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. As fate would have it, Amy Gahran of Contentious.com found my blog, and she has asked me to sit on a panel at the conference and talk about blogging ethics. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the changing way that media and information is delivered in the 21st century and about blogging, in particular, so I’m really excited to share my opinions with the panel. Okay – I tend to be excited to share my opinion at any time with anyone who will listen, but hey, being a blog ethics panelist carries a bit ‘o cachet! Now I’m officially opinionated! Seriously, though, the conference looks like it will be really good, in ...

That’s right. Pilot. He thinks “driving a cab” just doesn’t sound quite right so he looks at it as being a pilot. I kinda like that. Not only is he probably the best driver I know (and a great personal friend,) he’s available for his drunken, debauched friends when in need of a lift from Rehab or various other clubs around Las Vegas! That’s right…. Our personal, Las Vegas driver, VIP style. Okay, well as VIP as you can be in a taxicab How does one go about ending up a cab driver? Well, apparently a good way to start is being a screenwriter, because that’s what Nick is. In classic Hollywood mogul fashion, he has a half dozen or so scripts in various stages of production.. Being a great, ...

Every Spring, just like every other town, Las Vegas gets some changing weather patterns. Sometimes in March, usually in April, things shift and it warms up slightly, and it just gets really nice. Somewhere in that whole process the wind changes direction and starts blowing. It doesn’t get breezy, it gets nuts. I’m up early today… A little too damn early. Like a good little boy with many irons in the proverbial fire, I opted to take a pass on last night’s festivities, which I really hated to miss. Our friends over at Vegas Club Scene were hosting their new late night party at The Men’s Club Las Vegas called Plan B. Great name for an afterhours party! Brett Pojunis is hosting this weekly at this unique, slightly tucked-away strip ...

The National Association of Broadcasters Convention is a huge annual show in Las Vegas, one of the biggest if not the biggest we host here. People from around the world in the radio, television, and film industries come into town to either exhibit or view the latest in production equipment and systems, the most advanced that the industry has to offer. For our part, Las Vegas gets a huge influx of tourists spending those lovely expense accounts. Mmmm per diem [Homer Simpson voice.] I missed NAB last year, but two years ago I went to the exhibition. This thing is just unbelievable. It takes up every building at the Las Vegas Convention Center. It also takes up space at the Hilton’s Convention Center, the LVCC’s main parking lot, and probably ...

Bloggin’ ain’t easy. For a blog to be successful you have to write well and write regularly as a bottom-line commitment if you hope to establish and maintain a good readership. My recent week-and-a-half lapse is evidence of how easily it is for other things in life to override the time needed to carefully pick topics and put together good posts. In the blogosphere, we have quotas to meet. That’s just for those of us currently writing, mind you. I can only imagine how much time and effort must go into planning and producing a regular podcast…. Jon Favreau’s 1996 film “Swingers” starring Favreau himself and Vince Vaughn is a classic and one of my personal favorites. When Trent(Vaughn) tells his sheepish friend Mike what they need and they are ...
