The World Series of Poker’s Main Event – the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament that bears the title of World Champion – kicks off today with the first of four “Day One’s.” There are so many players in this monster of a tournament nowadays that they simply can not hope to fit them all into one space on the same day so they just break it down into multiple first days. A tournament this huge generates a lot of stress and strain and just making it through the first day is a huge accomplishment unto itself. With that in mind, Dorothy Kamaka, Las Vegas local poker player, card dealer, and all-around sweetheart, has put together – along with a little help from her friends – an event to ...

Having been open for well over a month, last night I finally ventured out with my friend Christopher Nolan to LAX to take a look around Las Vegas’ newest superclub. I’ve heard good things, but I’ve been really busy as of late, and in general I tend to avoid club openings and the celebrity worshipping madness that takes place around such things. Most importantly, though, I really just enjoy partying at a club once it has a real solid weekly night of good music and dancing and has some recognizable faces in the crowd. These things take time, my friend… So anyhow we ventured out for a bit. There is a lot of construction still taking place at the Luxor, which rumor has it, by the way, might not be ...

The Maloofs know how to work it. One of biggest features of the recently expanded Palms Hotel and Casino is their live music venue they are calling “The Pearl.” Not a reference to the mysterious hatch in Lost, The Pearl is said to be – nay, hyped to be – one of the best places to experience live performances of music anywhere… ever. From the photographs, The Pearl definitely looks like a great venue with some very unique, very special features. There are old school theater boxes all around the upper deck above the lower crowd’s main seating area. I’m assuming they will be providing bottle service, et cetera, to VIP’s willing to shell out the coin for those seats – it would be like the modern rock show equivalent ...

Last night my buddy Alex who is on staff over at Revolution Lounge called me doing some new promotions for the club and asked us to come out. We went in about 12:30 and it was pretty slow for a Wednesday, but this has been a bit of a strange week as far as traffic goes. The place is neat-o. The entry way is a series of three dimensional letters that say, well, “Revolution.” You just walk right through the letters like you’re on Zoom from PBS back in the day. Very interesting entrance, this one, and I always appreciate things like that because it sets a vibe for the rest of the night (this is one big reason why bouncers with attitudes and unbelievably long lines make for sucky ...

The time we’ve all been anxiously awaiting since then end of last September is finally almost upon us: April 29th, 2007. Yes, that’s right – opening day of Rehab 2007. I don’t have any information on who is playing opening weekend, but it hardly mattes – everyone around here I know has mentioned it and the party’ll be off the hook if a Vegas lounge act headlines doing Milli Vanilli covers (is that redundant?) So here’s a little reminder to start shopping for boardshorts or just the right bit of gyno-floss… the Las Vegas your mother warned you about is about to arrive in all its splendor! I’m curious about the weather for opening Sunday at the Hard Rock Hotel’s pool.. Weather.com says that the annual average high temperature for ...

…Empire just kills ‘em! An old friend of mine Nick the Good has finally bitten the bullet and made the move from the midwest to fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada. After a 1910 mile long trek two thirds of the way across the country and after unloading most of his unique belongings and after getting a Nevada driver’s license and becoming an almost official Nevada citizen (the process to be completed upon registering to vote in this state, county, and district,) a night on the town was not only in order, but I think required by Clark County ordinance… It’s been a minute since we’ve been over to 54. We met up with Christopher, Christina, and Mimi at Tabu after having a drink over at Rouge, which I still hadn’t made ...

Home away from home for me and our crew during the summer months in Las Vegas is Rehab. No, not a drug or alcohol rehabilitation program, but the Sunday afternoon pool party called Rehab at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. In the coming months you’ll be hearing lots more about that, but for now I was amused at a new product on the shelves here in Las Vegas – Rehab Recovery Supplement (energy drink)! That’s right, they have their own energy drink now. At first, I thought someone was ripping off their logo, which features a capital “R” with the pharmacy extension – the trailing part of the character with an “x” crossing it. Upon closer inspection, it’s our guys! They have the website URL right on the can. ...

After playing some poker and earning a quick couple’a bucks, we headed for Tryst (at Wynn) where we met up with some friends and skirted a pretty crazy line at the door. (The door staff and hosts at Tryst always seem to be good about taking care of locals once you get to know them, in my experience.) Not only was CES winding down and AVN’s porn convention going on, it was also Tryst’s one year anniversary party. The crowd was incredible – what a gorgeously naughty group of people! Martinis were had by all and we had such a blast it was difficult for even the drunken ...

It has been seriously slow the last several days. Scary slow. Uncomfortably quiet. This is the Las Vegas equivalent of the birds and other fauna fleeing ahead of an earthquake, the water receding far into the ocean before a tsunami hits. The events on the calendar for the next week make it clear: there’s about to be a lot of noise ’round here. It’s Consumer Electronics Show / Adult Video News’ Adult Video Awards and Adult Entertainment Expo (aka the “porn convention”) week. As I’ve driven around town, I’ve noticed the preparations underway for CES for some time now. I’m not sure what day they started loading in at the Las Vegas Convention Center for CES but I arrived back in town on December 30th and they were already underway, ...

The following story was relayed to me by my friend and player-partner, Christopher. Damn it, I wish I’d gone to the club on this night last week… So near the front of the club, right near the dance floor this older guy gets a booth and bottle service for his group. Big shocker, right? Yeah, well, you don’t see this kind of bottle service every day…. The guy comes into the club and opens his tab with an American Express Card. Not just any American Express Card – The American Express Card. The black card. The one whose minimum line of credit is $100,000. Well, usually in clubs in Las Vegas bottle service goes something like two or three bottles minimum and something on the order of a bottle for ...
