My Vote For Poker Player of the Year

Being a hardcore, dyed-in-the-wool poker player at heart myself, of the stories I’ve heard come out of the World Series of Poker this year, there is only one that speaks of pure dedication to such a noble cause as the game of life we know as “poker” and could earn my vote for Poker Player of the Year… Paul Clark’s story.

Here is a guy – a professional player – who takes the game so seriously that while he’s in competition for the title of Razz World Champion – final table, no less – has suffered multiple mini-strokes and refuses to leave the game to seek medical treatment.

“You’re a cool guy,” the two drunk people in the back seat of my cab have decided. I think they’re right. Even if I didn’t, it seems so obvious to them from their current altered state that I’d have to give it some serious thought. They seem sincere for some reason – not at all like those other drunk people that I’ve encountered. Maybe it’s because they have a coolness about them – a certain Fonzitude, if you will – and if these guys are cool, they should definitely know, right?

The Las Vegas [Landing] Strip?

There are some strange things that happen in our fair city – Mayors telling school kids his favorite pastime is drinking gin, hookers forming unions, holes in the desert – you name it, we’ve either had it, got it, or will probably get it before long. One thing I have not seen yet is Las Vegas Boulevard being used as a runway…

Last night, we had some very typical (for this time of year) strong, gusty winds around the valley. Being a private (student) pilot, myself, I’m always watching the planes come and go as I go about my day or night around town.
