The Burlesque Hall of Fame is going on in Las Vegas this weekend at The Orleans Hotel and Casino. There are going to be dozens and dozens of classic burlesque performers as well as a ton of new burlesque talent keeping an old style of sexy entertainment alive and well for our generation. Tickets are on sale on The Orleans website. I’m looking at Burlesque Hall of Fame’s website at the moment. I’ve never seen so many pasties! Granted, they aren’t required at most adult establishments these days, but it makes me think… There’s something really missing from modern day adult entertainment… starting with real performance, costuming, and, well, enthusiasm for what they are doing! I’ve known a handful of adult dancers that wanted to make an attempt at featured ...

It’s a little after nine o’clock in the morning and for the past forty-five minutes I’ve been driving back and forth from the MGM Signature towers to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center as fast as the passengers and the traffic will allow. It’s not the most desirable fare, but today I happen to be restricted. (Restricted cabs are prohibited from picking up rides Downtown, on the Strip, or at McCarran International Airport.) In a non-restricted cab I could go just about anywhere else, but the Signature is the closest location without a Las Vegas Boulevard address and there are plenty of rides because everyone is going to the convention. A short ride now is always better than another potentially short ride after a possible wait in a taxi line. Most ...

They Just Don’t Make ‘em Like They Used To… Tonight marked the last public performance of the Folies Bergère at the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The show had an almost fifty year-long run at the resort and has seen some unimaginable changes here in town. I was happy I was able to get a couple of tickets at a two person table in the center for one of tonight’s two performances. Las Vegas’ topless showgirl and variety performance shows are definitely a dying breed in Las Vegas. It seems that producers don’t really know what will work well here in town, and as a result, when they find something that is working, they just try to duplicate that as often as they can, rather than really putting ...

Many important people come to visit The Artisan Hotel just to feel that euphoric-yet-naughty sensation they once felt in the past. Recently during a very, very busy day shift, I spotted an impressive looking female in her late thirties waiting for my approach at the hotel bar to serve her. [Editor's Note: Bree, our newest guest writer, is a bartender at The Artisan Hotel.] There was no one else in the bar except her when I ran in from the madhouse of guests in the dining room and lobby. I found out she was one of the top managers for one of the main hotels in the city, but I will not say her name nor her hotel, for she may be either quite embarrassed (or proud) of the story. ...

The story of the actual party is for anyone brave enough to tell it. This came later: It’s probably about four in the morning and I’m sitting at the bar in The Artisan Hotel off the Strip in Las Vegas with a self-proclaimed stripper and some guy that I just met a few hours ago. The girl says, “Seriously, my tits are fake. Look – you can see the scars.” She pulls herself almost completely out of her top to show me. The guy is on a mission to acquire some girl for what’s left of the night and the girl that I’m talking to doesn’t seem to be his flavor. She’s not my flavor either, but even if I did have plans to capture her, I wouldn’t feel comfortable ...

Metro needs your help tracking down a sexual assault suspect. They say a man attacked someone at a Strip hotel early Saturday morning. Investigators say the man is armed and dangerous. They describe him as a white male, in his mid-30s with brown hair and a goatee. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555. Wow. I’ve heard so much about how there aren’t really any bad seats in the house, as the layout makes the most of its relatively small size. After tonight’s show featuring one of my favorite comedians, Eddie Izzard, I have to say that I can’t imagine that there are any really good seats in the house. Okay, you can see well from pretty much anywhere, sure, but you won’t be enjoying the view in comfort, let’s put it that way. I understand that they had to make the most of the space they had to work with, but I was left wondering if the seats were designed by Japanese ...

Oh my god I love this lizard!! Isn’t he cute? This is the newest addition to the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay. I want to see this sucker in action at feeding time! Feeding big fish smaller fish is fun, sure, but watching one of the most storied land predators at chow time has got to be a sight to behold. Ah, yes… the gnashing of teeth! Komodo Dragons are known for their ravenous, carnivore-style appetites. What you may not know is that they aren’t necessarily all attack-kill-eat in the wild… at least not in the time frame you might be thinking about. Komodo Dragons have a few curious adaptations. They have a bit of venom in their bite that causes almost immediate swelling and pain. This venom might ...

REJOICE! Okay, maybe we won’t rejoice, but seriously, the Star Trek: The Experience attraction at the Las Vegas Hilton is one of the few remaining un-niceties at the venerable old hotel and just doesn’t fit (and never did.) They have been working pretty diligently to restore some luster and reinvigorate the property for the last few years, and when you walk into a Hilton, you just don’t expect to see uber-nerd cheese as part of the whole ambience – it was killing the vibe they are working on reclaiming. Now I am not saying that I don’t like Star Trek. In fact, I used to watch The Next Generation regularly when I was younger and it was in early syndication, sometimes seeing the same episodes multiple times. I love the ...

The Monte Carlo is now open again this weekend for the first time since the fire that burned a major portion of the roof and top floor facade. The outside no longer looks fire-damaged. It looks more like it’s just getting a face-lift – some cosmetic rejuvenation. For me it would be pretty creepy to stay in a hotel that was burned out and still showed some of the after effects on the building. I just wouldn’t stay there. I know it’s all psychological but it would be just plain weird. Things seem to be more or less back on track, and in some ways, this will be good for the property. Where they’ve begun the repainting process, you can really tell how dingy the hotel was already looking. It ...

I was up early today, as I seem to be doing more and more lately for some odd reason, and I wanted to get out of the house. I was in the Las Vegas Strip area so I thought I should ride over by the New Frontier’s property and take a look at the aftermath from the implosion. Wow.. I know I can be a bit stupidly sentimental but there was this sort of sad pile of rubble laying there all forlorn. On the top of the pile were a couple of reflective remains of what used to be the huge letters that spelled “Frontier” on top of the structure – the only thing that’s left of the tower where so many millions of people stayed throughout the many years ...
