The BlogWorld and New Media Expo is coming to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. As fate would have it, Amy Gahran of Contentious.com found my blog, and she has asked me to sit on a panel at the conference and talk about blogging ethics.
I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the changing way that media and information is delivered in the 21st century and about blogging, in particular, so I’m really excited to share my opinions with the panel. Okay - I tend to be excited to share my opinion at any time with anyone who will listen, but hey, being a blog ethics panelist carries a bit ‘o cachet! Now I’m officially opinionated!
Seriously, though, the conference looks like it will be really good, in general, and I’m pretty stoked to sit in on a lot of the different sessions. If you are going to make it to BlogWorld, come out and say hi.

Every Spring, just like every other town, Las Vegas gets some changing weather patterns. Sometimes in March, usually in April, things shift and it warms up slightly, and it just gets really nice. Somewhere in that whole process the wind changes direction and starts blowing. It doesn’t get breezy, it gets nuts.
I’m up early today… A little too damn early. Like a good little boy with many irons in the proverbial fire, I opted to take a pass on last night’s festivities, which I really hated to miss. Our friends over at Vegas Club Scene were hosting their new late night party at The Men’s Club Las Vegas called Plan B. Great name for an afterhours party!
Brett Pojunis is hosting this weekly at this unique, slightly tucked-away strip club. The night features DJ Chris Garcia laying down the house music until the early morning, a reportedly lovely comp policy, and chefs in the club’s awesome front bar area preparing super-fresh, super-late-night sushi. I’m something of a sushi addict and I keep hearing how it’s killer there, particularly for a late night, so I’ll be checking all the action out myself next Tuesday… and maybe enjoy a few of the other delights the place has to offer as well >:P Hopefully they had a great launch night, probably getting some help from the fact that NAB is in town at the moment.
So as I was saying, I had to opt out of the fun tonight, project deadline looming and all… When I left dinner over off of the South Strip the wind had really kicked up quite a bit, as the weather people had been predicting. I went home and did a little more work and then called it a night around 11pm. By 3:45AM I was wide-awake. The wind was howling and some sort of vent thingy (that’s a technical term) in the roof of my townhouse with making noise in the breeze. This wind is off the hook right now! It’s supposed to continue like this, probably through tomorrow, with occasional gusts up near gale-force. For today, jeans might be a good wardrobe choice for the ladies

The National Association of Broadcasters Convention is a huge annual show in Las Vegas, one of the biggest if not the biggest we host here. People from around the world in the radio, television, and film industries come into town to either exhibit or view the latest in production equipment and systems, the most advanced that the industry has to offer. For our part, Las Vegas gets a huge influx of tourists spending those lovely expense accounts. Mmmm per diem [Homer Simpson voice.]
I missed NAB last year, but two years ago I went to the exhibition. This thing is just unbelievable. It takes up every building at the Las Vegas Convention Center. It also takes up space at the Hilton’s Convention Center, the LVCC’s main parking lot, and probably a bunch of other space around town that I never knew about. I spent all day and felt like I hadn’t seen a tenth of the thing.
What kind of products are on display you ask? Well, they had new jet-based helicopters in the building with high definition camera packages attached to the bottom in a robotic housing for television and film production. That’s helicopters, as in, plural. They had video screens of a size and quality I wasn’t aware existed. I’m pretty excited to go back through there this week and see how things have progressed since two years ago.
Welcome to Vegas, NAB..

The Consumer Electronics Show is now officially underway here in Las Vegas and the display of gadgetry is a bit mind-numbing. There doesn’t seem to be a huge wave of revolutionary products being launched, but the evolution of and consolidation of things that are existing - different technologies converging - is pretty damn cool. I did see a 100 inch + LCD flat panel I could use in my living room, though hehe
Now while I realize that the iPhone was presented at MacWorld today, which is definitely not in Las Vegas and definitely has little or nothing to do with this blog other than they make MacWorld to coincide with the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to get maximum exposure for their products, I just have to say it: I’m heart-broken that it isn’t going to be available for Sprint customers. That thing is too phat! I mean I don’t even need the iPod functionality of the thing - I have a big video iPod already - but the phone and other sections of the device are so sexy they belong in a strip club. I have a Treo 700p that’s less than six months old and I’d be willing to toss it just to use that thing. le sigh.
So yes, CES is now underway and I haven’t seen any official numbers yet, but so far as I can tell the crowds are pretty great this year. I’m going to get very little sleep between now and Sunday afternoon. I can sense it.
