Wine Ratings
Over the past few years I’ve grown really frustrated with the state of wine ratings and wine scoring in general. 100 point wine scales seem to have lost their meaning as wine tasting “experts” feel both internal and external pressures to give wines undeservedly high scores.
As it turns out, the original purpose for changing our wine scoring from the original 20 point European-style wine rating system to our current 100 point wine ratings scale was to give more nuance and variation in scoring. This purpose has all been eroded, though, since you see so many 90 point scores giving for wines that are clearly average at best.
A few months ago I finally published what I think is the best wine ratings system available and it’s also one that everyone can use because it gives meaning to the scores, rather than just grabbing a number out of thin air (or from somewhere else, as seems to be the regular practice.)
I wanted to share this new wine rating scale with my readers on While Las Vegas Sleeps, and also, I wanted to mention that if you are interested in tasting wines and learning about wine with us, we are forming a regular wine tasting group on the near southwest side of the Las Vegas valley. Email me and we can talk about details!
