Las Vegas Magical Weather Week

Las Vegas’ “Magical Weather Week” is a term I coined a few years back to describe this process that happens usually the second week of September or so where the weather just suddenly changes from summer hot to absolutely perfect. The daytime heat doesn’t get so hot; the warm nights begin to get more mild. It doesn’t happen gradually over a month or so. It happens suddenly - magically.

Where I was born and grew up it was not unheard of to be wearing shorts on Christmas Day. It stayed super humid and hot until well into October, usually, and there were pretty much two seasons: 1) hot and oppressively humid and 2) cold and wet. Las Vegas truly has four seasons. Because it’s paradise, the two best seasons for being outside and doing things (Spring and Autumn) last - by far - the longest. It never gets old, though, that once Las Vegas is done with the hot part of the summer, it’s just.. done. Following that week that this change occurs you can just count on several months of pleasant “I want to be outside” days that feature “I want to remain outside” evenings and nights.

So it is about to be upon us: Magical Weather Week. The highs are going to taper off 5-6 degrees or so and the lows are going to start moving down to the low-mid 70’s. A gentle breeze will make that feel almost cool to the skin. Heaven.

If you haven’t planned a trip to Las Vegas for September or October yet, I would highly recommend it. It’s the Las Vegas weather that no one seems to remember even though it’s perfect.
