Real Stories of the Most Unreal City on Earth… A Real Las Vegas Blog.

“While Las Vegas Sleeps” how ironic a title is that?

Las Vegas, Nevada, Sin City

The idea that this town – my town – Las Vegas, Nevada – sleeps… that’s pretty funny. What this town does do at it’s absolute most slowest season (which is the week or two before Christmas, by the way, and maybe a few other short stretches throughout the year) is take little “disco naps,” like some drug-crazed party kid taking a quick time-out in the middle of a larger 100 year-long party that just doesn’t want to stop… that won’t stop because it doesn’t have to. God, I love this fucking town.

I have a great life out here. I wouldn’t change a thing. This city keeps me awake, engaged, active. It illustrates simultaneously the best and worst of humanity. It has a deep grit and a fire that is alive and makes other world cities go “whoa!” in a way that, well, we all out here are kind of proud of.

I’ve seen so many shows on like The Discovery Channel or A&E TV or The Learning Channel or whatever that claim to be some highly produced tell-all of what Las Vegas, Nevada is all about. They might give an insight or two, but really, it just made me think… people are interested in the real Las Vegas and I have so many ridiculous experiences out here – why not write about them? So this is it. I’m going to try and update this at least a little bit every day. I might skip a day or two here or there but hopefully it will be consistent enough for you to check back. Also, when the truth about Las Vegas demands it I will change names to protect the guilty. One thing I will not do is judge. Not only is it not my place, shit, it’s my life!

Please fasten your seatbelts, ladies and gentlemen, I’ve got a few things to say…

I think your idea is great; I watch these Vegas shows but you know that the producers always have an axe to grind and the “whole picture” is never shown. I want to know when is the best time to come to Vegas – from the financial side. I have always wanted to visit, but (same old same old) money is always tight. Beginning of December is slow seaon you say? Would that translate into better (lower) hotel/fare prices?

Yes, actually, from a savings standpoint, I’ve been seeing crazy-cheap room rates recently. $49 at some places on the Strip. Depending on what games you play and your personal preferences, you might like it or not like it playing games. For me, since I play poker, I prefer lots of tourists with lots of money to lose :P if you play blackjack and craps and things like that, you might enjoy more because there’ll be more free seats and I think the table limits might average slightly lower in order to entice people to sit down and fill those empty seats. That’s not from a stats book I’ve read or anything, but just my perception from watching slow times, etc. Like during the day on a regular work day downtown you can usually find the lowest you’re likely to ever find in Las Vegas (or maybe anywhere.) After the National Finals Rodeo is over I would expect it to get really cheap around here.. Nice to meet you, by the way.. :)
