Okay this is one that could be written about in any city or village in the world.. or any ship on the high seas.. and probably even in space for that matter, but all that other crap is outside the scope of my blog. Besides, the crazy shit people do in Las Vegas tends to be a lot more interesting than in, well, anywhere else.

So Nicole and Liz are with me and we’re converging on Seamless for some afterhours fun and, uhm, “relaxation,” and we park across the street (the parking lot situation there sucks, but it’s definitely worth repeated late, late night visits.) We were kind of taking our time with the very short walk because my friend Christopher, who was meeting us, had not yet arrived. About the time we were going to turn to walk off of the sidewalk and into the entrance, some disagreement that was in progress that we had mostly ignored suddenly got really exciting. A very large, white, expensive SUV screeches out of the parking lot, across the footpath we’d just left fresh tracks on right behind us, and takes off.

Jesus did he ever take off. He curved out onto the street but accelerated so quickly he veered into the opposite sidewalk alongside The Orleans Hotel-Casino taking out a huge metal lightpole, half of a tree, and just missed a bus stop bench where, of course, someone might very well have been sitting (thank god they weren’t.)

The jackass driving this thing kept on going – with the airbags fully deployed, mind you – but didn’t even get to the light. His vehicle died as the radiator emptied onto Arville Avenue. It was kind of hard to tell from our vantage point but it sounded like he had tried to start the engine again after that to no avail. Police showed up very quickly, but the word on the street was that this drunk, belligerent asshole was not even arrested since they had not witnessed him driving the vehicle in a drunken state. And that was that. What the hell drives people to suddenly do things that risk not only their own life but the lives of innocent people just standing around trying to get in the strip club?

Drinks, laughs, and lap dances were had by all…
